So about SCOTUS today

1. There is a difference between church marriage and state marriage and given separation of church and state (which is a joke in this country), state marriage is an equality issue which may or may not be a fundamental right but impacts other rights that are absolutely fundamental.

Churches can go on ahead and perform or not perform any ceremonies they want, but the government can not deny these rights based on gender and sexuality

2. The argument that the institution of marriage has been heterosexual “forever” is a hot, western, colonial, mess that disregards and generalizes groups of people (not that White folks have ever had a problem with that before)

3. The argument that marriage is for the purpose of procreation is ridiculous and has an underlying message that our bodies and especially women’s bodies are not their own. Not to mention the argument also basically says that no one should get married who is not fertile and able to procreate.

WHAT?!

“Fewer than 2 percent of the 77,000 members of the United States Chess Federation are masters — and just 13 of them are under the age of 14.
Among that select group of prodigies are three black players from the New York City area — Justus Williams, Joshua Colas and James Black Jr. — who each became masters before their 13th birthdays.
‘Masters don’t happen every day, and African-American masters who are 12 never happen,” said Maurice Ashley, 45, the only African-American to earn the top title of grandmaster. “To have three young players do what they have done is something of an amazing curiosity. You normally wouldn’t get something like that in any city of any race.’”- Dylan Loeb McClain
